SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE

How to practice

  1. Find a window, doorway, or open view where you can see farther than arm's length.
  2. Sit or stand with the body supported and both feet connected to the ground.
  3. Let the eyes rest on a distant point such as sky, trees, buildings, horizon, or open space.
  4. Soften the focus so you are receiving the whole view rather than tracking details.
  5. Allow peripheral vision to widen and notice light, color, movement, and distance.
  6. Keep breathing naturally and relax the forehead, jaw, neck, and shoulders.
  7. If the mind starts analyzing the scene, return to the simple sense of looking and space.
  8. Stay for two to three minutes, then feel your feet and the room before moving on.

Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
