SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE
How to practice
- Sit or lie down in a position that feels emotionally easy and physically supported.
- Let the inhale arrive naturally through the nose or mouth without trying to make it deep.
- Exhale a little longer than the inhale, only to the point that it feels soothing.
- Soften the jaw, tongue, eyes, shoulders, hands, and belly as you breathe out.
- Use a gentle phrase on the exhale if helpful, such as soften, easy, or it is okay to pause.
- Let each new inhale begin by itself rather than pulling air in quickly.
- If the breath feels controlled or stressful, stop counting and simply feel the body supported.
- Finish by breathing normally and noticing one area that feels even slightly softer.
Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
