SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE

How to practice

  1. Sit or lie down and first orient to the real room so you know you are safe in the present.
  2. Imagine a place that feels calm, protected, and believable; it can be real, remembered, or invented.
  3. Build the scene through sensory details: light, colors, sounds, temperature, textures, and distance.
  4. Add boundaries or supports that make the place feel secure, such as walls, trees, a door, or open space.
  5. Notice how the body responds as you imagine being there, especially the breath, shoulders, belly, and face.
  6. If the image becomes unclear, rebuild one simple detail rather than forcing the whole scene.
  7. If visualization feels uncomfortable or unreal, open the eyes and use the actual room as the anchor.
  8. End by choosing one cue from the scene that you can recall later, such as a color, sound, or phrase.

Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
