SELF-GUIDED PRACTICE

How to practice

  1. Sit upright and relax the shoulders, jaw, and belly before beginning.
  2. Use the right thumb to close the right nostril and inhale slowly through the left nostril.
  3. Close the left nostril with the ring finger, release the right nostril, and exhale through the right.
  4. Inhale through the right nostril, then close it with the thumb.
  5. Release the left nostril and exhale through the left; this completes one round.
  6. Continue slowly for several rounds, keeping the breath smooth and quiet rather than forceful.
  7. Skip breath holds unless you are experienced and they feel completely comfortable.
  8. Stop if you feel congested, dizzy, pressured, or short of breath, and return to normal breathing.

Stay comfortable. You can stop at any time or return to your natural breath.
